For the past seven years, the Wake Forest University Family Business Center has bestowed their Family Business Award to North Carolina-based family businesses that demonstrate exceptional achievements and contributions to the community. This year, Greensboro-based marketing agency SFW took home the medium-sized company win.

The Family Business Award spans four categories—small, medium, large and the century award honoring family businesses in existence for more than 100 years. Each entry is judged on factors including innovative business strategies and practices, business growth and new development, contributions to community and industry, involvement by different family members and generations, and a commitment to family well-being and keeping the business in the family.

Two third-party judges reviewed the nominations, each ranking SFW in their top four choices. A WFU Family Business Center committee then voted to determine this year’s winners.

“Receiving this award means a great deal to us,” says Ged King, CEO of SFW. “My father founded this agency in 1984 and family meant everything to him. I know he’d be proud of the amazing work that comes out of our agency, and my brother and I are honored to continue his legacy of hard work and creativity.”
